If you are shooting with an SLR camera (https://yamamotonight-m.ru/hack/?patch=9294), such a case is only useful if you are not intending to change lenses and stick to a 50mm. For protection, while traveling light, I decided to use the ever-ready case. It did its job protecting the camera from rain and did not hinder me at all in taking pictures. So, I might have changed my opinion on ever-ready cases.
The light or exposure meter on top of the Kiev-4 body is of the self-powered selenium cell type and does not need a battery. The cell is kept in the dark with a spring-operated cover that is to be opened for light measurement only. Keeping the cell in the dark will prolong the lifetime of the cell. The exposure meter is not coupled to the lens.

Although identifying some Zorki 1 models isn't difficult, there isn't any way to easily classify all of them. Apparently, KMZ sometimes used parts left over from earlier production runs in later model cameras (https://yamamotonight-m.ru/hack/?patch=8415), especially during the transition from the 1B to the 1C and from 1C to 1D. There doesn't seem to be any specific cutoff dates when production of one model ended and a new model began. There also are incidents of Russian sellers mixing parts from different models in an attempt to create something they feel might be more attractive to collectors. Then there's the problem of serial numbers.
My latest purchase was a Hasselblad 501C camera. More similar in results to the Mamiya RZ67 Pro II (when using a 6×6 film back) and also with regards to being more precision/ professional feeling.

In an effort to speak the only language his brother now understood - the language of tossing shit overboard - Kenneth tossed all the sharp objects and the giant brick of drugs off the boat. He climbed to the top of the vessel and screamed for help until his cries were noticed by a fellow boater, and the brothers were towed to shore.
The shutter is a double cloth curtain, and the camera is capable of speeds from 1 second to 1/1000 second and Bulb. The shutter speed is selected by a dial on the top plate, with the slower speeds, from 1/25 to 1 second, selected on a secondary dial underneath the main shutter speed selector. As there is no meter, and this is a fully mechanical camera, there is no ISO selection.
It is up to the retailer to provide warranty support for grey goods. If the seller is located outside of your region, then you may not receive the help you expect from the seller. Alternatively, if warranty servicing is provided by the seller it may be provided by independent service centres, whose warranty services are not in line with Canon standards.

The Hasselblad film back is indeed similar to the Kiev 88 back but just feels better made. The ARAX-CM film back was a different design but looked similar from the outside. The Hasselblad Zeiss leaf shutter lenses add both weight and cost to the equation. Lens for the Kiev 88 can be picked up on eBay for as little as £75-£100 each. Zeiss lenses for the Hasselblad however are normally £350-£800 and skywards.
Immediately after World War II, the Soviet Union moved German equipment and technicians from the Zeiss factories in Jena and Dresden to the Arsenal factory in Kiev, Ukraine as a form of war reparation. There they ‘continued’ the Contax II manufacturing. The first model, named Kiev-II, was introduced in 1947 and is said to contain original Contax II parts. Don’t try looking for a Kiev-1; it never existed. The Kiev-II was followed by the Kiev-III, a copy or clone of the Contax III (a Contax II with an exposure meter on top of the body). The Kiev-4 (with exposure meter) and Kiev-4A (without) have a synchronised flash and some minor cosmetic differences compared to the Kiev-III. They were in production from the 1950s until the 1980s. The latest variant, the Kiev-4AM was equipped with a rewind crank and a hot shoe. All models use the Contax bayonet mount.
This is where the story would end if it hadn't been for a rare tattoo on the arm that allowed investigators to identify it as belonging to Jim Smith, a former boxer who found a later career committing petty crimes and insurance scams. Apparently, Smith had been a police informant and tried to blackmail the wrong guys. When he ended up in dozens of pieces in a chest at the bottom of the sea, the murderer hung onto his arm, because it had a rare tattoo and would serve as proof that he'd actually done the deed.

In 1957, the AFA-39 camera was the first in the world to survey the surface of the Earth from a height of 200 km. And as late as in 1959 the far side of the Moon was photographed for the first time in the world practice. The photographic equipment AFA-E1, created by the plant, was installed on the interplanetary automatic station.
Expectations – Hasselblad vs Kiev
The Zorki 4 made its appearance in 1956 and was basically a Zorki 3S with a self-timer added. It was the breakthrough model in the West and KMZ produced 1,715,677 Zorki 4 cameras which helps keep their value lower. The camera did vary from early to later models in that the early models had vulcanite coverings, engraved shutter speeds and had strap lugs. The later models, especially into the 1960s, had fabric coverings, painted shutter speeds which fade over time and the strap lugs bizarrely completely disappeared. The Zorki 4 continued in two variants with the Zorki 4K incorporating a wind lever advance instead of the thumb wheel used in the original version. The Zorki 4 was produced until 1973, with a 17-year production run.
The Zorki 4 in this review is paired up with a Jupiter 8 50mm f/2 lens, but this is not a review of the lens and its output, that will be held for another time, possibly with a comparison to the Industar 61 53mm f/2/8, the other lens the camera came with. It will be included only as part of the experience.

Focusing, using either the focusing wheel and rangefinder is very smooth. The viewfinder is very clear and if you lose the superimposed rangefinder image from time to time, the cure is always to remove a finger from the rangefinder window. After a while you’ll learn to stop obscuring the rangefinder window.
When Alan Robinson headed out to sea in Bar Harbor, Maine, in July of 2006, he, like all commercial fishermen, was hoping for a little luck. What he hauled into his boat that day was a 1 in 50 million discovery.
This latest security lapse is the second involving SORM in recent months. In August, a developer found thousands of names, numbers, addresses and geolocations said to have leaked from SORM devices. Using open-source tools, Russian developer Leonid Evdokimov found dozens of “suspicious packet sniffers” in the networks of several Russian internet providers.
To use the exposure meter, the cover first has to be opened. For that, press the small button indicated in red in the next figure.

The moral of the story is: always secure your devices, change your passwords, cover your webcam with tape and disconnect your microphones after use. You really never know who could be watching you these days.
Changing the aperture once the lens has been focused is difficult. You’ll need to fix the lens with one hand, while changing the aperture with the other hand. If you don’t, you’ll rotate the lens and with that change the focus. The rotation may also result in the aperture values being visible only on the underside of the lens. For me, the best procedure is to set the lens at infinity, which locks the lens and then change the aperture. Once the aperture is set, I’ll (focus.
Kiev-4s came standard with a Jupiter-8, a 50mm f/2 lens. This lens is a copy or clone of the Zeiss Sonnar lens of 1929, consisting of six elements in three groups. In 1931, Zeiss made a redesign with seven elements in three groups, leading to a maximum aperture of f/1/5. But the Jupiter-8 is not a clone of this redesigned lens, it is basically the 1929 Sonnar. In 1957, the Jupiter-8M was introduced, adding stops/clicks to the aperture ring.
No Zorki 1 model had a connection for flash as a factory feature. There are, however, many cameras (visit this website) that had that option added later by a repair shop (or possibly by the factory). Maizenberg also describes how to add electronic flash synch in his book on repairing Russian cameras (visit this link). This is a great feature when combined with the compact size of the Z1, and well worth a little extra money.

The exposure meter is still spot on and the calculator works well for decently illuminated scenes. For dimly lit scenes the calculator fails to deliver shutter speed and aperture settings and a hand meter needs to be used.
The first time I loaded film into it, Ilford HP5+, I was shooting late into the evening, so exposed for ISO 1600. I was very careful, to the point of paranoia, to ensure I wound on the frame and cocked the shutter before I changed film speed.
In December 2002, Jamie Artzt and Blake Liebeskind were looking to take their friend's mind off the fact that his marriage was on the rocks. Their buddy, Eric Bartos, loved deep sea fishing, and so they took him out off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. The outing was a success for Bartos, as he was able to land a trophy-sized sailfish. But like John McClane with a hangover, no matter how much ass he was kicking, he couldn't get his mind off his wife.
Once it had served its purpose, the arm was discarded into the bay anchored to something heavy by a length of rope. What seemed like covering tracks at the time looked like a too-good-to-be-true buffet to the tiger shark when it swam by. To be fair, everything looks like a too-good-to-be-true buffet to tiger sharks (in that scene in Jaws where they find license plates and a boot in a shark's stomach, it's a tiger shark they're examining). When the guilty parties were brought to justice, we hope they noted that they totally would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for those meddling fishermen and their crime-solving shark.
In 1935, Australians Albert and Charles Hobson baited a fishing line and left it off the coast of Sydney overnight. When they returned in the morning, they found out why most fisherman choose to get a good night sleep the night before they go fishing instead of while their lines are in the water: All the fish and even a small shark that had at one point been caught on their line now looked like Crystal Lake on Saturday the 14th. As they continued to haul in their line full of slashed and dismembered fish, they discovered the cause: A gigantic 14-foot tiger shark was entangled in their line and absolutely goddamn furious.

The lab technician mentioned he studied where he felt they could be cut and as he knows me quite well felt comfortable in judging it. He did quite well. I have included a couple of the overlapping strips at the end, without any adjustments.
A much-read complaint on the internet is the limited view through the viewfinder and the metal ring scratching eyeglasses. I think that the viewfinder is very bright, giving an accurate viewing of the scene that will end up on the negative. The glass-scratching is a serious problem indeed. I use contact lenses now (after scratching my glasses) to avoid this problem, which also gives me a better view. For wearers of glasses I advise to glue a rubber or velvet ring on the rangefinder window rim.
While on the surface grey goods can appear to be a good deal, sellers often try to tamper with the grey goods by adding, changing or removing accessories, manuals and warranties compromising your Canon experience. Some online retailers claim to be based in your region when they are not - so it pays to be aware.

For me a camera can create the perfect photo but unless I enjoy the process of making it then it is of no real interest. An obvious example of the is the super sharp Fuji GF670 folding rangefinder camera. Great photos but no emotionally attachment. The Hasselblad somehow makes it fun to take photos of the most simple everyday objects to try to create ‘art’!
To load the film, we first attach the lead of the film to the take-up spool. Then we insert the cassette into the left chamber and the take-up spool into the right chamber. We make sure that the film perforations engage with the sprocket teeth of the transport drum on the right of the shutter. Closing the camera has to be done carefully.

To load a 35mm film, we need to remove the back completely. For that, we need to lift up the two keys on the bottom of the camera – see the figure below – and rotate them half a turn.

This is not the first time Navalny supporters have had their information exposed online. In February, Moscow daily Kommersant wrote that an archive of personal information about 28,000 people was leaked on the web, including telephone numbers.
WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS YELLOW: EITHER a) your front wheel is in the paint (You do not have a safe stopping distance so you're in the GO ZONE) and you are required to travel through the light (safely). OR b) your front wheel has not reached the paint then you immediately know you're in the STOP ZONE. You (and everyone behind you) know immediately that you are required to stop and you know that you have a safe stopping distance in front of you.
The driver's decision to stop or go at the onset of the yellow light is a formula that is unsolvable because it has no constants. For several reasons (Including "Time flies when you're having fun") the human perception of time must always be considered a variable. Pure time solutions (such as yellow lights) violate the first law of calculus.
The Kiev-4 specifics are listed below. We will go through most of these in detail later.
Hasselblad vs Kiev 88 – Photos
Some Zorki 1 models are engraved while others are stamped -a cheaper way of applying lettering. All FED/Zorki, 1B and 1C cameras appear to be engraved. Zorki 1D and 1E models seem to be mixed with a few engraved but most stamped. Since KMZ tried to develop an overseas market for the camera a reasonable guess would be that the engraved models (which have a nicer look) may have been produced for export. The two types are easy to identify because the stamped lettering appears to be just that -letters pressed into the metal (see Zorki 1C illustration above). Engraved letters have cleaner, crisper edges on the letters. There were also at least two different styles of engraved lettering with letters that differ in width and font styles.
The lens mount is a Leica Thread Mount (LTM), allowing the camera to take a wide variety of lenses. It would have been sold with Jupiter 8 50mm f/2 lens with either the white or black face depending on the exact time of release. This camera came with a black face Jupiter 8 and Industar 61 53mm f/2/8 lens, and a very damaged Jupiter 8 for parts if needed (lens elements themselves are very badly scratched).

ZORKI 1C Cyrillic - Zorki engraved in Cyrillic on top along with the serial number. Other than the single name, this camera (https://yamamotonight-m.ru/hack/?patch=610) has the same mechanical characteristics as the Zorki Zorki. The finish doesn't seem to be as nice as the export model. SHUTTER CURTAINS -Zorki 1 cameras (try this web-site) have slightly wider shutter curtains than later Zorkis which use the same curtains as the later FED models. Some enthusiasts report that the narrower curtains will work on the older cameras (https://yamamotonight-m.ru/hack/?patch=8366) but others say they can cause light leaks. If you plan to replace the curtains, avoid problems by making sure you install the wider type.
Since all-in-all the camera seemed to be in a very good condition – giving me the impression that it has recently been CLA’d (Cleaned, Lubricated and Adjusted) – I decided not to open it up for CLA. I decided to give it an outer cleaning – although it did not need one – and run a film through, a roll of Kentmere PAN 400, to see if the shutter, shutter speeds and focusing are OK and if the body is light-tight. At the bottom of the inside, I found some light seal foam in good condition, confirming my assumption of a recent CLA.

Lobsters carry a variety of pigments, usually yellow, red and blue. According to National Geographic, lobsters "grow symmetrically, with each half of the body developing independently of the other" (but hardly ever in this perfect of a fashion), and the chimera lobster captured by Robinson was lacking the blue and yellow pigment on one side, which caused it to look halfway delicious.

Kiev 88 lenses I had included Mir 26B 45mm f3/5, Mir 38B 65mm f3/5, ARAX 80mm f2/8, Vega 28B 120mm f2/8 and the mighty Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 180mm f2/8 lens. My lens of choice was the Mir 65mm f3/5 that let me focus close to give a nice shallow DOF.
After this time my film photography stepped up a gear and I started buying more film cameras. I bought a Mamiya RZ67 Pro II 6×7 camera (visit this site right here) with 4 Mamiya Sekor lenses 65mm, 90mm 110mm and 180mm. The RZ67 waist level viewfinder is big and bright and so easy to focus with. The Mamiya Sekor lenses also brought a new level of film image sharpness that I had not yet seen. I bought 645, 6×6, 6×7 and Polaroid Mamiya RZ film backs and together the Mamiya kit put an end to me using my ARAX-CM and Kiev 88 cameras. The RZ67 was a bigger camera (https://yamamotonight-m.ru/hack/?patch=4348) but I loved the Mamiya bellow lens focusing system to get in extra close without the need for extension tubes. I sold the Kiev 88 camera but kept my ARAX-CM.

Most 1Ds also has an accent stripe around the lens mount. The shutter on the 1D and the 1E that followed has a different sound than earlier models. If you remove the bottom plate and examine the bottom of the shutter assembly you'll see the long, flat Leica-type spring with a rounded end visible on early models is gone.
To set the film sensitivity, rotate the inner ring with ISO/ASA/GOST settings indicated on the top. The ISO value is indicated by the red arrow. For that rotation, use the two small knobs indicated in green (number 1). Here I have set the sensitivity to ISO 400, see the top green arrow (number 1). Actually, the sensitivity is in GOST which is close to, but not identical to ISO or ASA. For negative film the differences between the two are negligible.
The covering tends to turn a brownish color with age. Zorki 1Ds and 1Es are covered with a rougher, more-artificial-looking Vulcanite. A few Zorkis prepared as awards or special gifts may have been covered with real leather.
The number of consumer-owned connected devices in Canada is growing rapidly. Research from IDC Canada, a global market intelligence firm, found IoT devices in Canadian homes is expected to grow 60 per cent between now and 2021.
The Zorki 4 is a great way in as an entry into more advanced rangefinders. Not what I would recommend for someone entering photography for the first time, it does have it peculiarities. These sell for very low prices and even with the risk on workmanship and possible camera failure, they are still worth a getting one and trying them out.

When looking at the front of the camera, we do see two windows. The one on the right is the viewfinder window, the one on the left is the rangefinder window, see the picture below.

In December, one dental clinic in the Toronto area was shocked to find out that their waiting room was being broadcast on the website (https://yamamotonight-m.ru/hack/?patch=2577) for everyone to see. Global News had alerted the staff of the live stream and they immediately updated their security camera system. They had forgotten to change the passwords to it when it was first installed.

Russia has long faced allegations of human rights abuses. In recent years, the Kremlin has cracked down on companies that don’t store citizens’ data within its borders — in some cases actively blocking Western companies like LinkedIn for failing to comply. The country also has limited freedom of speech, expression and dissidents, and activists are often arrested for speaking out.
ZORKI 1E is the last Zorki 1 model and was manufactured from 1954 to 1956. Most of these cameras have eight digit serial numbers where the first two digits of the reflect the year of manufacture. The 1E is easy to identify because it has different shutter speed progression and a "B" setting instead of "Z" like earlier models. There are some early 1Es with six or seven-digit numbers where the numbers don't reflect year of manufacture. I have a 1E with a seven-digit number beginning with "55" but it was made in 1954.

Behind this focusing wheel is a lever that locks the lens when focused at infinity. Pressing this lever unlocks the lens for focusing at distances between 0/9 m (3ft) and infinity. The lever and the focusing wheel are operated by the right-hand index finger.

We then see the cassette chamber on the left, the (vertical metal) shutter in the center and a loose take up spool on the right, see the next figure. The reason for having a loose take up spool is that it can be interchanged by a take-up cassette. If we use a take-up cassette, we don’t have to rewind the film after finishing he roll.

ZORKI 1B - The 1B has the flared collar around the shutter button and the release is threaded for a release cable. The flare isn't as wide as that of a FED 1. Another identification mark is three screws in the back of the top plate. Later models ony have two screws. Most Zorki 1Bs have a finer grained vulcanite than the FEDs. All have a film guide screwed to the baseplate. Some 1Bs have Zorki inscribed in both Latin and Cyrillic on top of the viewfinder. The serial number is on top of the viewfinder, in front of the accessory shoe. The majority of 1Bs appear to have the soft shell body that is very easy to bend.
I was really pleased with the results. The shutter speeds do all work, the focusing is very precise and there are no light leaks. On top of that, I am really impressed with the quality of the Jupiter-8M lens. I find it very sharp and contrasty, being used to Industar-22 and Industar-61 lenses on my other FSU rangefinder cameras. A few example shots are shown below.
Since I’m in favour of using a hand meter anyway – and then preferably in incident metering mode – I’m on the lookout now for a Kiev 4A model (the one without an exposure meter). If anything, I think that model looks even cooler than the Kiev-4.
I acquired my 1978 Kiev-4 from an internet auction, guided by nothing but photographs and a short description from the seller. The price I paid was very fair and worth the risk of buying a camera that I did not have in my hands before the transaction. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you’re lucky and this time I certainly was lucky.
A FAIR ANALOGY: Red Light Cameras are like a parent who forces a child to guess of the number that the parent is thinking of and when the child guesses wrong, the parent beats the child. The flaw in this psychology is to think that beating the child will help them become better guessers.
